Die Erfindung betrifft ein Rieseleinbauelement zur Übertragung von Wärme und/oder Stoff zwischen einem Gas und einer Flüssigkeit, die im Kreuz- und/oder Gegenstrom geführt sind, aus einer Mehrzahl von nebeneinander angeordneten Platten (1), die Ausprägungen (2) in Form von Kanälen oder Kanalabschnitten zur Hindurchleitung der genannten Fluidströme aufweisen, wobei die Kanäle bzw. Kanalabschnitte eine Ausbreitung der jeweils zwischen zwei benachbarten Platten (1) verlaufenden Fluidströme quer zu den Hauptströmungsrichtungen ermöglichen. Um bei vergleichsweise niedrigen Druckverlusten eine hohe Übertragungsleistung des Rieseleinbauelements zu ermöglichen, sind die mit den Kanalausprägungen (2) versehenen Platten (1) zusätzlich quer zu den beiden Hauptausdehnungsrichtungen der Platten (1) verformt, und zwar vorzugsweise durch eine halbkreis-, sinus- oder serpentinförmige Wellung.

Disclosed is a tower packing for vapor-liquid contact which includes a plurality of sheets (34) of corrugated material, the sheets being arranged generally vertically and parallel to one another with the corrugations of adjacent sheets criss-crossing one another. The sheets (34) are provided with a plurality of holes (36) for effecting both liquid and vapor distribution in said packing, and the holes (36) are arranged on the sheets (34) with the horizontal spacing between adjacent holes being no greater than about five times the horizontal extent of a hole, and in no event greater than about 5 millimeters. The horizontal extent of the holes (36) is no greater than about 2 millimeters. In one form the packing is constructed so that the angle said corrugations strike to the vertical axis of the packing and the fold-to-fold dimension of the corrugations are so selected with respect to the horizontal and vertical extent of a hole and the horizontal and vertical spacing between adjacent holes that a plurality of said holes (36) fall on a given corrugation fold (35) of a sheet (34).

The useful surface of the improved packings (22) amounts to 180 to 250 square meters per cubic meter in distinction to the value of 100 to 150 square meters per cubic meter of conventional packings. This is due to crossings (32) of the channels (e.g. 26a) which offer uniformly distributed points of mutual support and bonding of the cooling sheets (20) of a packing (22).

The sheets are arranged at a distance from one another, whereby a major part of those folds which form an angle with each other are separated from one another by an interspace between their crest without the same bearing against one another. This is preferably accomplished by means of distance members (18; 24; 30; 34), by which the sheets are kept at the said distance.

@ Expanded metal vapor-liquid contact plates disposed in face-to-face contact with respective corrugations inclined to the horizontal across a notional plane. In one embodiment, a perforated lamella is disposed across the notional plane. The expanded metal packing which may also be of slit or louvered construction is disposed within a vapor-liquid contact column for the purpose of bringing about mass and heat transfer between liquid and vapor passing in opposite directions therethrough. The body portion of each expanded metal plate comprises metal that has been slitted and expanded by stretching along oppositely oriented axes to provide both surfaces thereof with a very large number of apertures with little wasted material. The metal lands defining the apertures are, moreover, twisted and angulated. The apertures in the plates also trap liquid and expose it to the vapor stream on both sides of the expanded metal affording self-spreading of the liquid and turbulent vapor flow therethrough. In this manner, the assembly affords optimal pressure drop characteristics, surface to vapor passage area ration, and vapor-liquid distribution characteristics. The laminate plate formation may also afford select flow and turbulence characteristics through capillary action between offset laminate land areas of the corrugated sheets.
