The invention further relates to a method for the production of pseudoionone by aldolisation of citral and acetone by reactive distillation in a column in the presence of said catalyst and the regeneration of supported catalysts with an aqueous alkaline solution is also disclosed.

A structured packing element comprises a plurality of corrugated sheets and one planar member 200 positioned adjacent to each of the corrugated sheets. The planar member 200 has a top edge and a bottom edge that are at least proximally aligned with the top and bottom edges respectively of the corrugated sheets. The planar member 200 is further characterised by a middle portion 210 having a percentage open area that is higher than the percentage open area of the top and bottom portions 202 and 204 of the planar member 200. The structured packing element can be used to form structured packings for distillation applications.
