摘要： Mail processing methods and techniques for sorting and commingling mail from various mail sources including the tracking of the mail pieces through the processing. Such tracking entails uniquely identifying each mail piece, received in batches from the mail sources, and recording the unique identification of each mail piece. The received mail is sorted and commingled in a first pass, to form first collections, and each first collection is loaded into a uniquely identified mail container. For each respective mail piece, the tracking entails recording an association of the unique identification of one of the mail containers into which it is likely the respective mail piece is sorted on the first pass. After processing is complete, postal and client reports can be adjusted based on actual final pass counts.

When a history tab is pressed, the display reverts to the previous status of the category of interest, and allows the user to make changes if desired. In the preferred embodiment, the history tabs (332) allow users to view and modify information which is mandatory to the franking process, such as the mail class and postage rates. Another aspect of the present invention allows the user to configure the more actively used buttons of touch screen on one side or the other, depending on the dominant side of the user's body.

While the ASIC (Figure 2, 280) downloading image information from the RAM (Figure 2, 230), the system processor (Figure 2, 210) performs calculations needed from certain portions of the image prior to output and reproduction.

Attribute data (28) relating to a mailpiece will be stored in a memory while job data (22) relating to a mailing job will also be stored in a memory. A sequence building process (30) will look at the attribute data and determine the motion profiles that are required to ensure the mailpiece obtains the desired attributes. The sequence building then commands execution of the motion profiles.
