Fibers lubricants comprising a lubricating emulsion and a high molecular weight acrylamidoalkane sulfonic acid polymer are provided. The lubricants, especially those based on low-friction silicone lubricating emulsions, are characterzed by excellent low wet friction properties, particularly on cotton fibers.

A polymer surfactant for improving engine oil emulsion properties of a lubricating composition mixed with water and/or fuel contamination, particularly at very cold temperatures, is described herein. In approaches, selected polymeric and functionalized compounds can impart both robust emulsion properties and simultaneously deliver good low temperature fluidity for lubricating compositions that may contain residual amounts of water and/or fuel contamination. Lubricating compositions including such surfactants demonstrate robust properties at temperatures down to about -30 °C.

A lubricating composition, method of making, and method of use are disclosed. The lubricant includes an esterified copolymer including a backbone that includes units derived from a vinyl aliphatic monomer and units derived from a carboxylic acid monomer, the carboxylic acid monomer comprising an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or derivative thereof. The lubricating composition also includes an oil of lubricating viscosity. The lubricating composition includes no more than 2.5 wt. % of dispersant for dispersing oxidation products, other than the esterified copolymer.
