摘要: A billing scheme for a telecommunications network is described in which a billing record for a call including at least a plurality of data bytes is generated in a switch (10), each billing record is duplicated, and check information is generated from each data byte of a billing record and associated with each said data byte to form a protected billing record. Each protected billing record of a duplicated pair is transmitted via two independent transmission lines to processing means (40, 50) in which the associated check information is generated byte-for byte from each received billing record and the generated check information is compared byte-for-byte with the transmitted check information in parity checking circuits (60, 61). If for any one byte of a billing record, the generated check information does not agree with the received check information, that billing record is discarded. If there is no inconsistency between the received and generated check information for both billing records of a duplicated pair, the two billing records of the pair are compared bit-for-bit in a comparator (70). If any difference is found between the billing records of the pair, both billing records are discarded. Otherwise the received billing records are stored in non-volatile memory (75).

摘要: The invention seeks to provide an improved method and apparatus for detecting the phase difference between a digital data signal and a clock signal. By ensuring that no pulse in the output phase signal is narrow enough to introduce a non-linearity, the present invention avoids a source of non-linearity exhibited in existing phase detectors.
In addition, by ensuring that critical timing paths through the circuit contain similar circuit blocks, with similar propagation delays, relative time relationships are preserved from clock and data inputs to XOR inputs. The circuit is therefore largely insensitive to changes in the characteristics of the components so long as they all move together, as they would in an integrated circuit implementation.
The present invention also seeks to provide an improved digital signal threshold detector and a digital signal regenerator based on said apparatus.

摘要: In the Intelligent Networks environment, where multiple Service Providers and multi-Vendor equipment are involved in new service offering, the risk of overloading the network elements are real and managing the traffic is a challenge. Network traffic overloads could result from equipment failures, major equipment outages, or widespread loads above engineered levels. To solve the problem of network traffic overload, a Mediation Point (MP) is connected to a group of service control points (SCP). The MP includes control feature to balance the load and manage the overload controls for the multiple SCPs that are deployed in load sharing mode in the network.

摘要: A phase-locked loop (PLL) includes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a charge pump, a phase detector and a frequency detector. The phase detector detects the phase difference between an incoming signal and a VCO signal. The frequency difference between the incoming signal and a reference signal is detected by the frequency detector separately from the phase detector. During the process of attaining phase lock, the phase and frequency detectors operate simultaneously. The VCO signal is phase-locked to the incoming signal when it is present. When the incoming signal is absent, the VCO maintains a frequency close to an intended bit rate by frequency locking to a multiple of the reference signal. It, thus, avoids extreme system behavior and greatly assists rapid reliable phase lock when the incoming signal is applied following a period when it is absent. The PLL is analog for simplicity, low power, and the ability to achieve the finest possible phase resolution, while the frequency lock mode is digitally controlled for high parametric insensitivity and ease of disabling to minimize power consumption and jitter once phase lock is attained. The frequency detector includes two counters for counting the VCO and reference signals. The frequency detector inhibits either of the counters as needed to force them both to count at the same rate and uses inhibit pulses to control a separate charge pump connected directly to the integration capacitor of the PLL. The frequency detector can be easily added to a wide range of charge pump PLLs.

摘要: The switch capacity prediction process of the present invention collects operational measurements from the cellular switch. These operational measurements indicate the frequency of the call events processed by the switch. The other input/output (I/O) time used by the call processor to process messages not related to call processing is separated from the call processing I/O time. A relationship between the other I/O time and the sum of the call processing time and call processing I/O time is determined. A weighted average is determined from the summation of the products of: the frequency of events and the call processing time, the frequency of events and the call processing I/O time, and the other I/O time. The weighted average is then divided into the call processor occupancy time, in hours, to determine the switch capacity.

摘要: Electronic unit in which a heat conductive mounting comprises two spaced apart holding elements providing a receiving station for a printed circuit board. Edge regions of the board are in heat conductive engagement with the holding elements. Heat is conducted from electronic components on the board into the holding elements and from there into heat pipes connected to the holding elements. A housing around the heat pipes has apertures for flow of cooling air around the heat pipes. Part of the housing around the receiving station is thermally insulated thereby ensuring that substantially all of the heat is removed through the heat pipes.

摘要: An Optical Transmission System (1) includes a monitor (8) for outputting monitored data (a) representative of the extent to which an optical signal is degraded by polarization mode dispersion. The monitor measures the degree of depolarization (U) present in a sample of the optical signal derived from an optical tap (10), the depolarization being associated with polarization variation at the bit rate frequency of a signal data stream carried by the optical signal. The monitored data is used to control operation of the system to reroute the optical path taken by the optical signal in the event of a threshold level of polarization mode dispersion being exceeded. A transmitter (2) of the optical signal may also be controlled to minimize polarization mode dispersion by varying the polarization state of the optical signal at launch so as to reduce the measured monitored data. The monitor functions during normal transmission of optical signals without the need for shutting down links of the system for measurement purposes. The invention has particular application to long haul optical transmissions of data streams at 10 Gb/sec or more.
