摘要: The method described serves for in vitro production of cartilage and of implants consisting at least partially of cartilage. It is based on living cells that are able to form an extracellular matrix of cartilage, and which are placed in an otherwise empty cell space (1), and are left in this cell space (1) to form an extracellular matrix of cartilage. As many cells are introduced into the cell space as necessary for it to contain about 5x10?7 to 109¿ cells per cubic centimetre. The cell space (1) is separated, at least partially, from a culture-medium space (2) surrounding the cell space (1) by a semipermeable wall (3), or by an open-pored wall that acts as a convection barrier. The open-pored wall may take the form of a plate (7) made of a bone-substitute material, and be located towards the bottom of the cell space (1). This causes the cells to be deposited on this plate (7), and the cartilage arising in the cell space (1) grows into its pores or surface irregularities, thus creating an implant consisting of a bone-substitute plate (7) and a layer of cartilage covering this, with the two parts of the implant having a positive form fit with one another resulting from the cartilage growing.
