The reactor may be any type of fixed bed exothermic containing supported catalyst particles or the reactor bed may be a monolith with catalytic material coated on to the surface of the structural members.

A compact endothermic catalytic reaction apparatus for converting hydrocarbon feedstock and methanol to useful gases, such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide, comprising a tubular endothermic catalytic reactor(1), a radiant combustion chamber (4) and an annular convection section (17). Thus tubular endothermic catalytic reactor receives radiant energy from a metal fiber burner (7) that is disposed within the radiant combustion chamber (4). Combustion products from the radiant chamber enter an annular convection section (17) wherein heat is transferred by forced convection to the tubular endothermic catalytic reactor (1). The combination of radiant and convective heat transfer results in a compact design of high thermal efficiency.

For a reforming device that generates fuel gas for fuel cells by decomposing hydrocarbon compounds such as natural gas and then using a hydrogen separation composite to selectively transmit hydrogen, a hydrogen separation composite having the following structure is used. A porous support medium made of ceramics, etc. is formed, and a hydrogen separation metal is supported in the pores so as to fill the inside of the support medium. It is also possible to support a reforming catalyst. By doing this, it is possible to increase the area at which the hydrogen separation metal contacts gas, so the hydrogen transmission performance is increased. Furthermore, to prevent raw material gas leaks due to pin holes, high pressure gas is supplied to the hydrogen extraction side, and the total pressure is made higher than the pressure on the raw material gas supply side without making the hydrogen partial pressure higher. By using these means, it is possible to increase the hydrogen separation performance for the reforming device and to make the device more compact.

Selon l'invention, lesdites zones de chauffage (101-a) et de traitement (101-b) sont situées dans une même enceinte (100) et comprennent un élément vibrant à fond essentiellement plat (101) destiné au transport des objets, ledit fond permettant le support des objets, la diffusion du fluide à travers lesdits objets et la transmission des vibrations. Le dispositif selon l'invention comprend en outre une zone de refroidissement (101-c) desdits solides disposée dans ladite enceinte (100) en aval de la zone de traitement (101-b) relativement au sens de déplacement desdits solides dans l'enceinte (100) ; et un moyen de chauffage (115) extérieur à l'enceinte (100) est prévu.
