A traction unit (22) capable of traversing and turning on surfaces that include compound curves like the surface of a sphere or are inverted like a ceiling. The traction unit includes a plurality of trucks (50a-50d) operable to propel the unit across a surface and a plurality of adherence members operable to releasably secure the unit (22) to the surface (23). In operation, the adherence members (46a-46d) cyclically attach to and release from the surface as the trucks propel the unit across the surface. Within each cycle, after the unit has traveled a predetermined distance relative to an attached member, the member releases the surface and reattaches to the surface at a different point.

The invention relates to a heavy vehicle (1) with a mass greater than 40 tonnes, such as a transporter vehicle, or a civil engineering machine, comprising a steering train (7), provided with at least two tyres and a driving train (6) by means of which at least a part of the driving force is transmitted. According to the invention, the driving train comprises four tyres (2,3), with at most two tyres permanently transmitting at least a part of the driving force and at least the tyres of the driving train are individually associated with a braking device.

A steering system (25) for an articulated steered mobile work machine (10) has a first sensor (66) for sensing the relative angular position of first and second machine sections (12, 14) and a second sensor (68) for sensing the relative angular position of second and a third machine sections (14, 16). A controller (70) determines for a sensed relative angle of the first and second machine sections (12, 14) the desired relative steering angle of the second and third sections (14, 16) and actuates a second control valve (42) to direct fluid flow to a second pair of fluid operated jacks (28) and pivot the third machine section (16) to a desired angular position relative to the second machine section (14). The second sensor (68) provides feedback as to the relative angular position of the second and third machine sections (14, 16).

The invention relates to a combination (1) of a vehicle, in particular a tractor (2), and a frame (3) connected thereto and bearing an arm (5), which frame (3) is provided with support means (4), for instance in the form of one or more wheel axles (16), and is arranged on an end of the tractor (2). The frame (3) can herein be connected, optionally for pivoting, to the tractor (2) between the front axle (9) and rear axle (10) thereof. The invention further relates to a frame (3) having support means (4) which bears an arm (5) and which is evidently intended for use in such a combination. The arm (5) can herein be arranged pivotally on the frame (3).
