Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for coating a board of wood-based material, in particular a board of real wood, a plywood board or a board for parquet flooring, with a flowable plastics material. The method comprises applying the plastics material as a single, thick layer to the board of wood-based material (6) and creating an impressed structure by means of a material web (3) or a structure roller. After creating the impressed structure, the plastics material is cured to produce a wear-resistant surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for contacting a flexible sheet to a first element with improved lateral alignment. The method includes a step of measuring a first lateral misalignment after establishing a first contact between the flexible sheet and either of the first element and a sheet parking surface called anchor in the first stage. If the misalignment exceeds a predetermined threshold the flexible sheet is parked at the anchor such that it is not in contact with the first element, and the relative position of the first element and the anchor is altered during the second stage for correcting the mismatch during a contact between the flexible sheet and the first element to be established within the next step of the method. During the steps of shifting the contact point to obtain the second stage the contacting process is more accurate and reproducible than the process for establishing the initial contact. The invention also relates to an apparatus for executing the method, and the use of the method and apparatus for the manufacture of devices.
Abstract:
A high speed embossing and adhesive printing process using a first and second embossing rolls having complementary embossing pattern disposed thereon. A web of sheet material is placed in contact with an adhesive applied to the first embossing roll. The adhesive forms an adhesive pattern on the web of sheet material in register with the first embossing pattern of the first embossing roll. The web of sheet material is then passed between the first and second embossing rolls which emboss the web with the complementary embossing pattern.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for producing a high gloss coating on a printed surface. An aqueous coating composition in pan (1) is deposited onto a surface to be printed using rollers (3, 5) and coating cylinder (9) whose blanket roller coating face has a low energy, non-stick, smooth surface profile on which coating blanket (7) is formed. Simultaneous with the deposition of aqueous coating onto a substrate, or shortly thereafter, pressure between cylinders (9, 10) at nip (11), either alone or in combination with heat may be applied to the coating in order to create a substantially tack-free surface conforming to the surface of the coating face. The substrate is fed to cylinder (10), via cylinder (15) and removed by cylinder (16). By using a highly polished coating face, high gloss coatings may be obtained using this methodlogy in a number of traditional printing techniques including wet trap inline sheet-fed printing, heat-set offset printing, dry trap inline flexographic printing, offset web-fed printing and gravure printing. Coatings which are produced utilizing the present invention have high gloss values heretofore unobtainable using aqueous coating compositions.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a self-adhesive strip which adheres on both sides and can be especially used to ensure very long-lasting adhesion at high temperatures. Such adhesive strips, especially adhesive strips for assembly, which are used to permanently fix objects to substrates, are preferably designed in a multi-layer manner. The inventive double-sided adhesive strips are characterised in that the viscoelastic carrier layer consists of a thermally homogeneously cross-linked acrylate hot-melt adhesive which is free of photoinitiators. Said adhesive strips are also characterised in that the homogeneously thermally cross-linked acrylate hot-melt adhesive has cross-link points over urethane units. The viscoelastic carrier layer is respectively covered on both sides with adhesive layers, preferably contact adhesive layers, which are connected to the viscoelastic carrier layer by a chemical reaction. According to the process for producing the adhesive strips, the adhesive layers previously applied to a separating material are subjected to a corona pre-treatment, the acrylate hot-melt adhesive to be thermally cross-linked is applied in a sheet-type manner and formed, a thermal cross-linking agent having been added to the acrylate hot-melt adhesive before the application thereof, the layers are laminated together, and the secondary reaction is carried out on the bale preferably without introducing any additional heat to the cross-linking process. Said method ensures an especially good adhesion of various materials, which is an especially positive development for the adhesive properties of the adhesive strip used for assembly.
Abstract:
Methods of high speed coating a pigment-containing liquid coating material onto a substrate so as to avoid visible pigment separation in the coating material in its as coated state. In the method, a pigment-containing liquid coating material is applied to a substrate, while the substrate is moving at a high line speed of at least about 15.24 m/min., to form a coated layer. The coating material is applied to the substrate along a substantially straight, dynamic wetting line where the coating material first contacts the moving substrate. The coating material is of the type that will exhibit visible pigment separation on its interface surface when the coating material is coated onto the fast moving substrate, without the use of a substantially straight wetting line. The wetting line is substantially straight when a significant amount of visible pigment separation does not occur at the chosen high line speed.

The present invention is directed to transparent articles including a microembossed image (3) such as a hologram or a diffraction grating, coated at least in-part, with a layer (4) of material having a refractive index that differs from the refractive index of the transparent layer by about 0.2 units and can be prepared by solution coating techniques such as conventional printing, e.g., rotogravure.
Abstract:
The invention provides for inexpensive, versatile methods for rendering packaging materials anti-microbial, by printing packaging materials with a substantially inert polymeric dispersion containing zeolites which release anti-microbial metal ions, such as silver ions, on exposure to moisture.
