A center tube is disposed within the canister and defines a length between a first end and a second end. The center tube includes a center tube wall having a plurality of apertures and defining a central bore, which is aligned with and is in communication with the first passage. The center tube wall includes a resilient valve seam, which extends along the length of the center tube and has a closed position and an open position. A filter element is mounted on the center tube and is disposed within the canister. When the valve seam is in the open position, the bore is in unfiltered communication with the second passage through a gap formed at the valve seam.

The lip also may define a hole for receiving the stem or, in accordance with an alternative embodiment, for receiving a post or the like associated with the oil filter element. A method is also provided of producing an oil filter assembly having a housing defining an oil filter chamber adapted to receive an oil filter element. The method comprises the steps of: disposing a casing about a spring and a valve; forming a lip on a leading edge of the casing for retaining the valve in engagement with the casing; and inserting the casing into a port defined by the housing.

    摘要: In an exhaust gas heat exchanger system of a combustion engine, having a bypass duct 9 and a heat exchanger duct 5 with a heat exchanger 7, a valve 10 is controlled by a method comprising the following steps: First, it is determined that heat is to be transferred from exhaust gas flowing through the exhaust system to the heat exchanger 7. Thereupon, the valve 10 is switched into a first position in which the entire exhaust gas flows through the heat exchanger duct 5. A pressure drop across the heat exchanger system is monitored either directly or indirectly. If the pressure drop reaches a predefined limit, the valve 10 is switched into an intermediate position, the intermediate position resulting in a first portion of the exhaust gas flowing through the heat exchanger duct 5 and a remaining portion flowing through the bypass duct 9, thereby reducing the pressure drop across the heat exchanger system. If the pressure drop again reaches a predefined limit, the valve 10 is switched into a second position, the second position resulting in a second portion of the exhaust gas flowing through the heat exchanger duct, the second portion being smaller than the first portion, thereby further reducing the pressure drop across the heat exchanger system.

In one embodiment, the intermediate member extends completely about the inner cylinder. The hydrocarbon adsorbing device may also include a flange attached to and extending outwardly from the outer cylinder for use in locating the hydrocarbon adsorbing device in the induction system.
