A method of determining the volumetric flow rate of a fluid, which determines the volumetric flow rate of said fluid essentially independently of the properties of the fluid, comprises the following steps: guiding the volumetric fluid flow to be measured through an essentially linear flow resistor (110); generating an alternating fluid flow and superimposing the same on the volumetric fluid flow to be measured; detecting the pressure drop across the flow resistor (110); determining the steady component and the alternating component of the pressure drop detected; determining a quantity (FV) representative of a fluid property of the fluid on the basis of the alternating component which has been determined; and calculating the volumetric flow rate on the basis of the steady component which has been determined as well as on the basis of the quantity (FV) representative of the fluid property.

The device is preferably equipped with a precision adjustment for the drop of pressure, with correction sensors for temperature and pressure of the gas, and with a microprocessor which measures the gas quantities.

A process variable transmitter for measuring a pressure of a process fluid includes a process coupling having a first port configured to couple to a first process pressure and a second port configured to couple to a second process pressure. A differential pressure sensor is coupled to the first and second ports and provides an output related to a differential pressure between the first pressure and the second pressure. First and second pressure sensors couple to the respective first and second ports and provide outputs related to the first and second pressures. The invention presents a differential pressure type emission flow rate measuring method and apparatus and an emission measuring system using the same apparatus, capable of correcting measuring error occurring due to pulsation appropriately and enhancing the measuring precision of flow rate when measuring the flow rate of emission having pulsation. The invention, in measuring the flow rate of an emission exhausted from an engine, determines an accurate flow rate in spite of pulsation by using a differential pressure type flowmeter as the flowmeter, resolving the detected differential pressure signal by frequency, and correcting by using a correction coefficient predetermined depending on each frequency obtained by frequency resolution.

A method for determining the flow rates of a multi-component mixture in a pipe including a gas phase and a liquid phase comprising an emulsion of oil and water, the emulsion being either of the water continuous type or the oil continuous type, the method comprising the following steps: a. the flow rates of the individual components of the multi-component mixture are measured, b. the Reynolds number of the multi -component mixture is measured, c. the emulsion type of the liquid phase of the multi-component mixture is determined, and d. based on the results from steps b and c, a more accurate flow-rate of the individual components of the multi-component mixture and a fluid property of at least one of the components of the multi-component mixture are calculated. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

The correction factor is determined in dependence on the measured differential pressure and on the configuration of the flow meter. The flow rate of the medium is determined on the basis of the measured differential pressure and the determined correction factor.
