    摘要: An outlet valve assembly for a common rail fuel pump for an internal combustion engine, comprising a valve member (18) provided with a frusto-conical surface which is engageable with a valve seating (16) to control fuel flow between a high pressure pump volume of the fuel pump and a common rail located downstream of the pump volume, and an outlet flow passage (36, 32, 34) for fuel through which fuel flows to the common rail when the valve member (18) is lifted from the valve seating (16). A valve housing (12) is provided within a valve housing bore (14), the valve member (18) including a guide portion (18a) which cooperates with the valve housing bore (14) so as to guide movement of the valve member (18), in use. The valve seating (16) is defined by the valve bore housing (14) and is of frusto-conical form.

    摘要: A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine comprises a valve needle (12) which is movable within a bore (30) relative to a valve needle seating (34) defined by the bore to control fuel delivery through at least one outlet (38) of the injector, the bore (30) being supplied with fuel at high pressure for injection when the valve needle is moved away from the valve needle seating (34); an actuator (14) coupled to the valve needle (12) so as to effect movement thereof; and a sac volume (40) for fuel at a lower end of the valve needle (12) and downstream of the valve needle seating (34). A balance chamber (60) for fuel is provided at an upper end of the valve needle (12) which communicates with the sac volume (40) via a connecting flow path (62). The balance chamber (60), the connecting flow path (62) and the sac volume (40) define a volume for fuel which is isolated from fuel within the bore (30) when the valve needle (12) is engaged with the valve needle seating (34).

The fuel injector comprises a supply means (24, 24a) for high pressure fuel, an injection nozzle (25) including a valve needle (26), a control chamber (42) for the valve needle, a first filling flow path (44) providing flow from the supply means (24) into the control chamber (42), and a control valve (48) for controlling fuel pressure within the control chamber (42). The control valve (48) comprises a first valve chamber (104) and a second valve chamber (106), and a control valve member (60) operable between a first state in which the first valve chamber (104) communicates with the supply means (24), and in which flow between the second valve chamber (106) and a low-pressure drain (21) is prevented, and a second state in which flow between the first valve chamber (104) and the supply means (24) is prevented, and in which the second valve chamber (106) is in communication with the low-pressure drain (21). The fuel injector further comprises a drain flow path (50) including a drain restriction (50a) and permitting flow from the control chamber (42) to the second valve chamber (106) when the control valve member (60) is in the second state, and a second filling flow path (47) permitting flow from the first valve chamber (104) into the control chamber (42) when the control valve member (60) is in the first state, wherein the second filling flow path (47) bypasses the drain restriction (50a). The drain restriction (50a) comprises an orifice.
