A fuel injector for controlling fuel flow to an internal combustion engine and a method of setting dynamic calibration for the fuel injector. The fuel injector comprises a body, a seat, an armature assembly, a resilient member, and a member. The body extends along a longitudinal axis. The seat is secured to the body and defines an opening through which fuel flows. The armature assembly moves along the longitudinal axis with respect to the body between first and second positions. The first position is spaced from the seat such that fuel flow through the opening is permitted, and the second position contiguously engages the seat such that fuel flow is prevented. The resilient member biases the armature assembly toward the second position. And the member extends parallel to the longitudinal axis between a first portion and a second portion. The first portion supports the resilient member and engages the body, and the second portion has a filter. The method comprises providing the member extending between the first portion and the second portion, fixing the filter to the second portion, moving the member along the longitudinal axis with respect to the body; and engaging the first portion with respect to the body such that the first portion supports the resilient member in a predetermined dynamic state.

Sensors are mounted within a seat structure for measuring seat occupant weight. The sensors can be mounted in any one of various sensor configurations. So that common hardware can be used for each different sensor configuration, a virtual matrix is created and output from the sensors is mapped into the virtual matrix. The virtual matrix includes cell locations that do not have a corresponding sensor output; i.e. there are fewer physical cells (sensors) than virtual cell locations in the virtual matrix. A weight output signal from each sensor is mapped into the corresponding position in the virutal matrix and the remaining virtual cell locations have values assigned tothem based on data supplied by the surrounding physical cells. Seat occupant weight is determined based on output from the virtual matrix and the occupant is placed into one of the various occupant classifications. Deployment force of a restraint system is controlled based on the classification of the seat occupant.

The fuel inlet connector extends in a generally longitudinal direction above the armature and defines a central path for fuel to enter the inlet connector and to be directed toward the armature for further passage toward the fixed valve seat. The fuel inlet connector has a lowermost end portion spaced above the armature to define a working gap through which the armature is movable to open and close the valve. The lowermost end portion of the fuel inlet connector has a transverse cross-sectional dimension corresponding to the transverse dimension of an upper end face of the armature to define a substantially direct magnetic flux path between the armature and the fuel inlet connector.

The outer recess perimeter is proximate to the generally tubular perimeter such that fuel deposits form exclusively in the generally circular recess.
