A temperature compensation arrangement is provided for a current reference circuit. The current reference circuit has a voltage generator coupled to provide a voltage to a resistor, which generates a current in dependence upon the voltage. The arrangement includes a current source, arranged to be controlled by a control voltage from the voltage generator, and a diode arrangement coupled in series with the current source for deriving therefrom a control voltage. A compensating transitor is coupled to receive the control voltage for providing a temperature compensating supplemental current which is combined with the reference current to produce a combined current. The diode arrangement and the compensating transistor are arranged such that the combined current is substantially temperature independent.

Upon receipt of a granted resource the remote unit (112) will apply the granted resource to the oldest request (502) stored in the queue (500) in order to transmit data (310) to the communications controller (110). A separate and distinct aspect of the transmission system (100) resides within the communications controller (110). In response to the receipt of a data packet (310) from a remote unit (112), the communications controller (110) identifies missing data within the data packet transmission, determines whether communication resources are available to support retransmission of the missing data, and if so, transmits a response to the requesting remote unit identifying the missing data and simultaneously granting sufficient resources for retransmission of the missing data.

A method and apparatus to produce a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal from pulse code modulated (PCM) data. In one embodiment, a crossing point of an analog signal with the ramp portion of a sawtooth waveform is approximated by first extrapolating, or projecting, a line between two adjacent sample points across other sample points to produce an estimate of the crossing point. A magnitude difference between a crossing point of the extrapolated line and a sample point magnitude on each side of the crossing point is determined. The magnitude difference, multiplied by an empirically determined constant, is added to the estimate. A PWM signal is then produced using the estimate for the crossing point.

A first halo region (33) and a second halo region (36) are formed adjacent to source region (41) such that after subsequent thermal processing, a constant doping profile of opposite conductivity as source region (41) is formed in the channel region (23) adjacent the source region (41). The embodiments can be formed either adjacent to only the source region (41) to create a unilateral device, or the doping profile can be formed adjacent to both source region (41) and a drain region (40) to produce a bilateral device. An additional embodiment forms a second implant region in source region (41) to reduce junction leakage and capacitance.
