摘要: A liquid vaporizing and feeding apparatus, having high heat transfer efficiency and capable of producing a large flow of vaporized gas from a small amount of liquid, utilizes an inclined vaporization plate which is held at a set temperature by a heater. Liquid, discharged by a nozzle in the vicinity of the upper end of the vaporization plate, is vaporized as it flows down an inclined upper face of the vaporization plate. When the volume of the liquid collected on the vaporization plate 20 reaches a designated amount, a level sensor 40 stops the inflow of liquid through the nozzle. Then, as vaporization continues, and the liquid level falls, the sensor causes inflow of liquid to resume. The cycle of stopping and resuming flow of liquid is repeated to maintain a constant liquid level.

摘要: The present invention provides a facility for identifying the unknown language of text represented by a series of data values in accordance with a character set that associates character glyphs with particular data values. The facility first generates a characterization that characterizes the series of data values in terms of the occurrence of particular data values on the series of data values. For each of a plurality of languages, the facility then retrieves a model that models the language in term of the statistical occurrence of particular data values in representative samples of text in that language. The facility then compares the retrieved models to the generated characterization of the series of data values, and identifies as the distinguished language the language whose model compares most favorably to the generated characterization of the series of data values.

摘要: Driver's licenses and other security documents include one or more machine-readable features, each conveying plural bits of information. These features are used in a variety of ways to increase security, and/or to enhance functionality. In one embodiment, data encoded on a driver's license is used at airport check-in, to link to a state DMV database and obtain information by which the document, and its custodian, can be authenticated. In like fashion, a license can be used to authenticate a bearer and/or his/her age prior to the sale of alcohol or tobacco products. In other embodiments, different elements of a driver's license (e.g., the substrate, photo, text data, and machine-readable data) are logically bound together (e.g., interlinked through payloads conveyed by different machine-readable features) as a deterrent against counterfeiting. Driver's licenses can be similarly logically bound to personal checks and other documents. Many other arrangements are also disclosed.

摘要: A friction mating member (10) is fabricated by providing a surface of a base member (30) with a hard coating (20) having a load point displacement characteristic in which the elastic range, that is, the ratio of elastic deformation to maximum indentation depth, is at least 50% in a load range from 1 to 50 mN. The friction mating member is capable of coping with both an increasing friction coefficient in a high-speed range and decreasing friction coefficient in a low-speed range, without being affected by the type and deterioration of the lubricating oil. The friction mating member maintains an m-V characteristic having a positive gradient over a long period of use. Thus, the friction mating member solves problems attributable to noise and vibration.
