The translating step comprises obtaining the physical cylinder number by referring to an index table in which logical cylinder addresses correspond with physical cylinder numbers for physical cylinders arbitrarily located on the at least one magnetic storage disk.

A developer apparatus comrises a developing tank (10) arranged with a centrally located rotatable and vertically translatable shaft (20) carrying a workpiece platform (12) at the upper end thereof. Initially, the platform is located above the tank for ease in loading a workpiece, for example an exposed photoresist coated semiconductor device component. The platform and workpiece are then lowered into developing solution in the tank where they are rotated and oscillated vertically for agitational action during a predetermined time period after which they are raised up out of the solution and delayed with continued rotation at a drying station for another predetermined time period. A disk drive reads and writes information on a flexible .magnetic disk stored in a rigid disk cartridge (8). The drive contains apparatus for loading and registering the cartridge in the drive without the assistance of a loading tray or cartridge carrier. A disk drive spindle (16), recording head '(18) and cartridge position registration pins (42A) all protrude into the insertion path for the cartridge above support ledges (41). The spindle and pins are shaped and positioned so that the cartridge will not strike the recording head as it is inserted. Spring-biased plates (40) bias the cartridge down against the spindle and the registration pins. When the cartridge is fully inserted, it snaps into a registered position on the ledges (41) over the pins, the spindle and the recording head.
