Feeds containing triglycerides are processed to produce an olefinic diesel fuel product and propylene. The olefinic diesel can optionally be oligomerized to form a lubricant base oil product. The olefinic diesel and propylene are generated by deoxygenating the triglyceride-containing feed using processing conditions that enhance preservation of olefins that are present in the triglycerides. The triglyceride-containing feed is processed in the presence of a catalyst containing a Group VI metal or a Group VIII metal and optionally a physical promoter metal.

In a process for preparing a high activity, large crystal ZSM-5 type zeolite in the absence of a template, a reaction mixture can be prepared comprising water, a silica source having a surface area less than 150 m 2 /g, an alumina source, seeds, a source of an oxide of an alkali metal, M, and a source of gluconic acid or salt thereof, Q, wherein the mixture has a SiO 2 /A1 2 O 3 molar ratio ≤40. The reaction mixture can be heated to a crystallization temperature from about 100°C to 200°C for a time sufficient for crystals of ZSM-5 to form. Crystals of ZSM-5 can then be recovered from the reaction mixture which crystals can have a SiO 2 /A1 2 O 3 molar ratio ≤40 and a majority of which crystals can have at least one crystalline dimension of at least about 2 μm.

The invention is a technique for predicting future haze formation in dewaxed, petroleum-derived, lubricant base stocks and, by extension, products made from such base stocks. In general, the technique measures the changes in light scattering caused by the formation and disappearance of wax crystals in a dilute test sample of neat base stock, over the course of a temperature profile. The data obtained is then compared to a previously formulated historical correlation of measurements taken using light scattering data to haze potential. The technique focuses on haze disappearance temperature as a reference point, as opposed to total wax formation. The technique also uses a solvent to accelerate the formation of wax crystals in the test sample. The technique provides a robust early warning system that allows refineries to rapidly and accurately determine the long term haze potential of a base stock production prior to release. The technique can be performed in real time, typically in less than an hour.

In a process for producing phenol and cyclohexanone, a feed comprising cyclohexylbenzene is oxidized to produce an oxidation reaction product comprising cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-1-hydroperoxide. At least a portion of the oxidation reaction product is then cleaved to produce a cleavage reaction product comprising phenol, cyclohexanone, and at least one contaminant. At least a portion of the cleavage reaction product is contacted with an acidic material to convert at least a portion of the at least one contaminant to a converted contaminant and thereby produce a modified reaction product. The oxidation reaction product may have at least 50 wt% of cyclohexylbenzene, no greater than 80 wt% of cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-1-hydroperoxide, and 0.1 wt% to 10 wt% of another hydroperoxide.
