摘要: A medical instrument comprising: (a) a first joint comprising a first member and a second member, the first member configured to be repositionable with respect to the second member in a first degree of freedom; (b) a second joint operatively coupled to the first joint, the second joint comprising a third member and a fourth member, the third member configured to be repositionable with respect to the fourth member in a second degree of freedom; (c) a pair of repositionable jaws operatively coupled to the first joint and the second joint; (d) an open-ended occlusion clip detachably mounted to the pair of repositionable jaws; and, (e) a controller operatively coupled to the first joint, the second joint, and the pair of repositionable jaws, the controller including a first control configured to direct repositioning of at least one of the first member and the second member, and a second control configured to direct repositioning of at least one of the third member and the fourth member, and a third control configured to direct repositioning of the pair of repositionable jaws, the third control including a line operatively coupled to the first and second jaws in at least a gun tackle pulley configuration.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for creating transmural ablations in heart tissue which, for example, may include two or more electrodes adapted to be connected to opposite poles of a bipolar RF generator so as to energize the electrodes to ablate cardiac tissue between the electrodes. A first electrode may be inserted into cardiac tissue at a first location and a second electrode may be inserted into cardiac tissue at a second location which is spaced from the first location. At least one of the electrodes may be adapted to provide a sufficiently low current density in the vicinity of the electrode to avoid substantial tissue desiccation when energized. Alternatively, the apparatus may include at least one bipolar ablation electrode which comprises an elongated conductive member of spiral shape having a pitch sufficiently small to provide sufficient surface area to avoid substantial desiccation of tissue when energized by a bipolar RF generator.

摘要: A grasper (10) is provided having a handle (18) with an elongated shaft (20) secured thereto. First and second jaw members (22, 24) with opposed clamping surfaces are secured to the shaft (20), with one jaw member being slidably secured with respect to the other jaw member. The jaw members (212, 24) are relatively movable by an actuator (26) between an open position and a closed position. A resilient member (46) is associated with at least one of the first or second jaw members (22, 24) or the actuator (26) limits the force exerted on tissue held between the clamping surfaces of the jaws (22, 24) when the jaws (22, 24) are in the closed position. The jaws (22, 24) are preferably, but not necessarily, pivotal relative to the elongated shaft (20) by remote actuation.
