The rotation axis of the wheel and the predetermined direction define an ideal plane of movement of the drive unit. The apparatus also comprises a first and a second device (5, 6), each of which comprises: an arm (7, 70) hinged to the frame (4) and configured to rotate around a respective axis (Y, Y') parallel to the rotation axis of the wheel, a tool (8, 80) configured to operate on a rim and/or a tire of a wheel; the first and second devices are configured to arrange the respective tools on opposite sides with respect to said ideal plane. The present invention also regards a process for the assembly and disassembly of tires.
