A method of producing a generally uniformly roughened surface on Ti 6/4 alloy or titanium for contact with living bone comprises exposing the Ti 6/4 alloy or titanium in an aqueous solution of citric acid and hydrofluoric acid for a suitable time period to remove the native oxide from the Ti 6/4 alloy or titanium so as to expose the Ti 6/4 or titanium metal surface and create the desired surface topography.

The present invention relates to a new dental implant (10) that includes a generally cylindrical section (14) and a tapered section (18). The implant has a thread (20) making a plurality of turns around the exterior surface. The implant (10) is installed into a bore that includes a generally cylindrical portion and a tapered portion. The dimensions of the cylindrical section (14) and the tapered section (18) of the implant are at least the dimensions of the generally cylindrical portion and the tapered portion of the bore, respectively. The bore is preferably shaped by a shaping drill that has a profile that generally mimics the profile of the implant. The female threads are preferably developed through a compression tap or a series of compression taps that cause the bone tissue defining the female threads to have increased density.

A single-use system for separating blood and producing platelet concentrates includes an elongated container for receiving blood from a patient. The container has a movable plunger mounted within the blood container for expressing blood fractions separated during centrifugation of the container through a first port mounted at one end of said container, a second port mounted on the plunger, and a third port mounted on a plunger rod attached to the plunger.

A dental component attaches to an implant implanted in living jawbone having overlying gingiva. The implant has an apical end embedded within the jawbone and a gingival end near an interface of the gingiva and the jawbone. The dental component comprises a body having a lower region, a gingival region, and a supragingival region. The lower region has an end surface to engage the gingival end of the implant. The gingival region extends through the gingiva and has an outer surface for forming and maintaining an aperture in the gingiva that exposes the gingival end of the implant. The supragingival region has a top surface projecting above the gingiva. The dental component includes first means for receiving a healing element and second means for receiving an impression element. The healing element includes means for fastening the body to the implant so as to allow the gingiva to heal around the body for an extended period of time thereby forming the aperture. The impression element includes an upper segment extending above the supragingival region for receiving impression material and means for securing the body to the implant. Consequently, the dental component serves as part of both a gingival healing component and an impression component.

The surface (12) of a device (10) that is surgically implantable in living bone is prepared. The device (10) is made of titanium with a native oxide layer (14) on the surface (12). The method of preparation comprises the steps of removing the native oxide layer (14) from the surface (12) of the device (10) and performing further treatment of the surface (12) substantially in the absence of unreacted oxygen.

An implant comprising two internal anti-rotational features. One anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage a driving tool while the other anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage an abutment. An implant-abutment system is provided with an angled abutment adapted to mate with one of the anti-rotational features. A second, straight, abutment is adapted to engage with the other anti-rotational feature. An abutment is provided with resilient fingers to interface with the implant and provide tactile and audible feedback indicating when the abutment is properly seated. An abutment screw extends through the abutment and engages the implant bore distal of the stem of the abutment. The abutment screw limits axial movement of the abutment relative to the implant. A driving tool comprising one of at least retention structure and visual alignment indicia is provided to facilitate screwing the implant into a patient's bone.
