A cell cultivating device comprises superposed, separate tray-like members (15) forming mutually spaced partition walls, which define superposed chambers for containing a cell cultivating medium therebetween. The superposed tray-like members (15) are arranged within a closed outer container (10) having a flat bottom wall (18) and a flat end wall (21). A liquid cultivating medium may be introduced into the outer container (10) through a filling opening (12) while the container is in an upright position in which it is supported by the end wall. The liquid may then substantially uniformly distribute itself within the cultivating chambers via a tunnel (31) extending along the end wall and interconnecting the cultivating chambers. The tray-like members (15) are preferably sealingly interconnected along the periphery thereof, and the free edge of the upper tray-like member may be spaced from the inner surface of the container top wall (19) in order to reduce problem of leakage of liquid medium between the chambers.
