摘要： A method of manufacturing a padded part is provided. The padded part is primarily for use in an item of wear that may be a load-bearing harness or belt. The method includes the steps of providing a first sheet of a flexible material on one side of which is located at least one fastener. A second sheet of flexible material is provided and a layered assembly is created including, in order, the first sheet of material such that said one side of the first sheet is outermost, apiece of mouldable padding, and the second sheet of flexible material. Hot melt adhesive layers are provided between the padding and the sheets of flexible material. The layered assembly is moulded in a press after or during heating of the layered assembly thereby simultaneously bonding the layers of the assembly together and moulding the layered assembly into a predetermined shape.

摘要： A flexible, impact-resistant laminate (1) comprises a first layer of a flexible material (2) and a second, impact-resistant layer (4). The impact-resistant layer (4) comprises an impact-resistant material (6) interposed between regions of a closed-cell foam (5) that is bonded to the first layer (2) such that preferably the impact-resistant material (6) substantially fills the spaces defined between the regions of the closed-cell foam (5). The impact- resistance material (6) preferably comprises an elastomeric material or, if a third layer (3) of a flexible material is bonded to the closed-cell foam (5) on the other side of the laminate to the first layer of material, a packing comprised of a packing comprised of tightly packed beads or particles (7). A method of manufacturing such a laminate comprises the steps of providing a first, flexible layer (19) of material; bonding regions of a closed-cell foam (8, 18) to an inner side of the first layer (19); and introducing an impact- resistant material (6) into spaces (9) defined between the regions of the closed-cell foam (8, 18) to form a second, impact resistant layer. An inner side of the third layer (22) of a flexible material may be bonded to the closed- cell foam (8, 18) on the other side of the laminate to the first layer (19) of material.

Such a material is suitable for providing protective wear for human and animal bodies. Preferably, the elements comprise a foam material such as a closed cell polyethylene foam and the substrate comprises a knitted fabric. In an advantageous embodiment, a second flexible substrate is bonded over the elements (1) to sandwich them between the two layers of substrate (2).

摘要： A method of manufacturing a flexible, impact-resistant material comprises the steps of providing a sheet of a closed-cell foam material (15) and cutting the sheet into at least two tessellating patterns (8, 9), preferably by means of a cutter (10). The tessellating patterns (8, 9) are then differentially moved relative to one another such that the surface of one of the tessellating patterns (9) stands proud of the surface of the other tessellating patterns (8). A first, flexible layer of material (19) is then bonded to the surface of the tessellating pattern (9) standing proud of the rest. Preferably, a block arrangement (13) is located in the cutter (10) that causes the tessellating patterns (8, 9) to move relative to one another after the sheet of foam material (15) has been cut.
