A multiple layer polymeric-based sheet structure (10) suitable for forming dispensing tubes, has enhanced abuse resistance by incorporating a layer of oriented polypropylene (22) therein, and a layer of linear low density polyethylene is preferred to provide for heat sealing (to make a side seam of the tube) as it substantially improves stress crack resistance and resistance to generation of polydust. An exemplary multilayer structure has the following layers, in order: the heat seal layer (32), a first adhesive (30), a metal foil (28), a second adhesive (24, 26), the oriented polypropylene (22), another adhesive layer based on low density polyethylene (18, 20) and additional paper and polyethylene layers (16,14 and 12). The strength of adhesion between the oriented polypropylene and the adjacent adhesive layers is at least 54 grams per inch (2.54 cm).

An exemplary multilayer structure has the following layers, in order: the LLDPE heat seal layer (232), a first adhesive - (230), a metal foil (228), a second adhesive (226), another layer (218) based on low density polyethylene, and additional paper and polyethylene layers - (216, 214 and 212).

The invention is in an improved packaging tube (110) and the packages, containing product, made therefrom. The packaging is suitable for holding products containing substantial fractions of cyano-acrylate-type components. The invention depends on the use of special multiple layer sheet material (414) for the tube sidewall and a covering strip (116) over the inside surface of the tube longtitudinal sideseam (112). A layer of high density polyethylene (418) is positioned on the inside surface of the tube, such that it is the surface in direct contact with the product. A primer layer (420) having a Lewis base-type component, such as polyethylene imine, is between the surface of the high density polyethylene layer (418) which is disposed away from the product and subsequent layers (e.g. 422) which may be susceptible to interaction with the product. Preferred embodiments of the package use sheet materials having additional layers to provide barrier, heat sealability, and abuse resistance properties, and the necessary adhesive materials to hold the various layers of the structure together with good adhesion. Additional layers are contemplated. The covering stip (116) is high density polyethylene, and it covers and protects the edge of the sheet material on the inside of the package at the tube longitudinal sideseam (112).

A collapsible dispensing tube (430) has a multi-layer sheet material (436) sealed over the dispensing orifice in its dispensing head neck (434) to provide a hermetically sealed tube. The multi-layer sealant sheet comprises two layers of metal foil (312, 316) separated by one or more polymer layers (314, 324, 326) firmly adhered to the metal foil layers. A polymeric layer (322) is adhered directly or through other polymeric layers (318,320) to one of the metal foil layers and serves as an outer surface capable of bonding to the neck (434) to seal the tube orifice. The laminated sheet may be sealed across the orifice by the application of radiofrequency energy. The metal foil layers have such thicknesses and mechanical properties as to give the sheet material the properties of perceability and deadfoldability.
