摘要： Chemical process for degrading halogenated organic compound having at least one C-halogen group and preferably a plurality of such groups to remove halogen atoms from said compound by treating it with ultra-violet (UV) radiation (2) and hydrogen (6) preferably, though not necessarily in alkaline liquid solution. Process for degrading such compound which is capable of forming alkali metal salts by treating it in aqueous alkaline solution with UV radiation (2). The process can be used generally as a means for dehalogenation and is particularly useful in the treatment of contaminated effluent wastes from manufacturing processes or from contaminated water, soil, sludges or other wastes already present in the environment. An example of a compound effectively treated by the processes of the invention is kepone, decachloropentacyclo (5.3.0.02,6.03,9.04,8) decan-5-one.
