Abstract:
To provide a water/oil repellent composition which can impart sufficient post-air-drying water/oil repellency to the surface of an article, and which presents a low environmental impact, and an article having its surface treated with the water/oil repellent composition. A water/oil repellent composition comprising a copolymer (A) having structural units based on a monomer (a), structural units based on a monomer (b), structural units based on a monomer (c) and/or structural units based on a monomer (d); and an aqueous medium (B) containing water, and a film-forming assistant (x) and/or a film-forming assistant (y). Monomer (a): a monomer having a C 1-6 polyfluoroalkyl group, monomer (b): vinylidene chloride, monomer (c): a monomer, the homopolymer of which has a glass transition temperature of at least 20°C, monomer (d): a monomer having a crosslinkable functional group, film-forming assistant (x): a specific amide solvent, and film-forming assistant (y): a specific glycol solvent.
Abstract:
To provide a fluorinated copolymer which presents little burden on the environment and is capable of imparting excellent water repellency to a surface of an article, a process for its production, a water repellent composition using such a fluorinated copolymer, and an article having a surface treated with such a water repellent composition. A fluorinated copolymer comprising, in specific ratios, units derived from F(CF 2 ) 6 CH 2 CH 2 OC(O)C(CH 3 )=CH 2 , units derived from vinyl chloride, units derived from vinylidene chloride, units derived from an alkyl (meh)acrylate having a C 12-30 alkyl group, and units derived from a monomer having no fluoroalkyl group and having a cross-linkable functional group, wherein units derived from F(CF 2 ) n CH 2 CH 2 OC(O)C(CH 3 )=CH 2 (wherein n is an integer of from 1 to 5) are in at most a specific ratio; a water repellent composition containing such a fluorinated copolymer; and an article treated with such a water repellent composition.

Abstract:
To provide a water repellent composition whereby it is possible to obtain an article having excellent hot water repellency and dry soil resistance, a method for producing the water repellent composition, and an article excellent in hot water repellency and dry soil resistance. The water repellent composition comprises a copolymer having structural units based on monomer (a), structural units based on monomer (b), and structural units based on monomer (c) in specific proportions, and an aqueous medium. Monomer (a): compound represented by R F -Q-Z-C(O)C(R)=CH 2 (R F : C 4-6 perfluoroalkyl group, Q: divalent hydrocarbon group or single bond, Z: -O- or -NH-, R: methyl group or chlorine atom). Monomer (b): (meth)acrylate having cyclic hydrocarbon group, of which the homopolymer has a glass transition temperature of at least 50°C. Monomer (c): vinylidene chloride.
