To provide an economically advantageous process for producing HFO-1234yf useful as a new refrigerant in sufficiently high yield by one reaction involving thermal decomposition. A process for producing HFO-1234yf and VdF from raw material containing R22, R40 and TFE, by a synthetic reaction involving thermal decomposition, which comprises (a) a step of supplying the R22, the R40 and the TFE to a reactor, as preliminarily mixed or separately, (b) a step of supplying a heat medium to the reactor, and (c) a step of bringing the heat medium in contact with the R22, the R40 and the TFE in the reactor to form the HFO-1234yf and the VdF.

An azeotrope-like composition comprising from 58 to 78 mol% of HFO-1234yf and from 22 to 42 mol% of R40, and a method for producing HFO-1234yf, which comprises steps of distilling an initial mixture containing HFO-1234yf in a content exceeding 63 mol% in the total amount of HFO-1234yf and R40, thereby to separate the initial mixture into a first fraction in which the content of HFO-1234yf in the total amount of HFO-1234yf and R40 is lower than the content of HFO-1234yf in the total amount of HFO-1234yf and R40 in the initial mixture, and a second fraction in which the content of HFO-1234yf in the total amount of HFO-1234yf and R40 is higher than the content of HFO-1234yf in the total amount of HFO-1234yf and R40 in the initial mixture, and then obtaining HFO-1234yf having a reduced R40 concentration, from the second fraction.

By supplying a perfluoroacyl halide-containing organic solvent solution, an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide or a metal peroxide, and an aqueous basic alkali metal compound solution to a tubular reactor to allow them to react with one another, in a flow rate ratio of, as represented by molar ratio of the compounds in the solutions, from 1.00 to 1.35 of the basic alkali metal compound and from 0.60 to 40 of hydrogen peroxide or the metal peroxide per 1 of the perfluoroacyl halide, the yield of a perfluoroacyl peroxide based on the material perfluoroacyl halide can be remarkably improved as compared with conventional technique.
