The invention relates to a method for producing aromatic amines by hydrogenating nitro-aromatic compounds in the presence of catalysts consisting in forming, in a reactor, a fluid amine-containing reaction mixture from which the catalysts are separated. After the separation of the catalysts, the inventive method consists in measuring the absorption of UV/VIS radiation by said reaction mixture in order to determine the concentration of nitro and nitroso compounds therein.

A catalyst containing nickel on a TiO2 carrier, which can be obtained by jointly precipitating nickel and at least one other metal selected from the group consisting of Si, Zr, Hf, alkaline earth metals Y, La, Ce and optionally at least one doping metal selected from groups 5 to 11 of the periodic system of the elements, from a solution containing the corresponding metal salt onto a particle-shaped TiO2 carrier, and by subsequently drying, calcinating and reducing, and optionally passivating in order to obtain nickel-containing catalyst.
