Ces copolymères de (méth)acrylate contiennent, sous forme polymérisée, les constituants suivants: (A) au moins un (méth)acrylate et/ou un (méth)acrylamide correspondant à la formule générale (I), avec des propriétés optiques non linéaires du second ordre, où les variables ont les significations suivantes: R est un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe méthyle; X est, le cas échéant, une partie flexible de molécule d'espacement (''spacer''); Y est un groupe bivalent à activité de donneur d'électrons; Z est un résidu non ponctuellement symétrique contenant un système d'électrons pi facilement polarisables et au moins un groupe accepteur d'électrons; et (B) au moins un (méth)acrylate d'un alcanol avec entre 10 et 30 atomes de carbone dans le résidu alkyle; le rapport molaire entre (A) et (B) est compris entre 1:0,5 et 1:5. Ces copolymères constituent d'excellent matériaux optiques non linéaires pour dispositifs optiques non linéaires et pour la fabrication de couches de Langmuir-Blodgett. Les copolymères de (méth)acrylate contenant en leurs terminaisons des groupes nitro, trifluorométhyle, cyano ou fulvène-6-yl en tant qu'accepteurs d'électrons et dont les rapports molaires entre (A) et (B) sont différents de ceux indiqués ci-dessus ont encore d'autres applications que celles du domaine de l'optique non linéaire.

(Meth)acrylate copolymerizates are non-linear optical materials which are ideally suited for non-linear optical arrangements and for the production of Langmuir-Blodgett coatings. These compounds are obtained by copolymerization of A) at least one (meth)acrylate and/or one (meth)acrylamide of general formula (I) with second-order non-linear optical properties, where R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, X is possibly a spacer, Y is a divalent electron donor group, Z is a residue containing a non-centrosymmetrical, readily polarizable, conjugated π-electron system as well as at least one electron acceptor group, and B) at least one (meth)acrylate of an alkanol with 10 to 30 carbon atoms in the alkyl residue. The molar ratio of (A):(B) is between 1:0.5 and 1:5. These (meth)acrylate copolymerizates have terminal nitro, trifluormethyl, cyano or fulven-6-yl electron acceptor groups and the molar ratio of (A):(B) may differ from those mentioned above. They can also be used in applications other non linear optics.
