Abstract:
A thermoplastic moulding composition with improved metal plating properties is provided. This thermoplastic moulding composition is produced from a graft copolymer (A) a thermoplastic polymer (B) and a thermoplastic polymer (C) that is not, or only to a limited amount miscible with the thermoplastic polymer (B). The thermoplastic polymer (C) contains from 1 to 10 % by weight of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, like acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or dicarboxylic acids, such as maleic acid and fumaric acid and their anhydrides, such as maleic anhydride. The vinyl aromatic content of component (C) is at least 5 units lower compared to that of component (B). The graft copolymer is produced from a soft elastomeric particulate graft base with a glass transition temperature below 0°C obtained by emulsion polymerization of a conjugated diene alone or with a small amount of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer or of at least one C1-8-alkyl acrylate, or of mixtures of these, upon which is grafted a vinyl aromatic monomer and acrylonitrile and optionally another monoethylenically unsaturated monomer.

A thermoplastic molding composition comprising A) 2.5 to 50 wt. % of a rubber modified styrenic resin; B) 50 to 97.5 wt. % of a polycarbonate resin; C) 0.001 to 1 wt. % of an inorganic boron compound; D) 0 to 25 wt. % of further polymer resins; and E) 0 to 45 wt. % additives, shows excellent thermal stability at high temperatures and impact resistance, and no thermal discolouration during processing.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic molding composition having reduced gloss sensitivity and no unpleasant odor is produced from a graft copolymer and a thermoplastic polymer. The graft copolymer is produced from a soft elastomeric particulate graft base obtained by emulsion polymerization of a conjugated diene alone or with a small amount of a mono- ethylenically unsaturated monomer, using an inorganic radical generating substance and a limited amount of chain transfer agent, upon which is grafted a vinyl aromatic monomer and acrylonitrile and optionally another monoethylenically unsaturated monomer using an inorganic radical generating substance while the use of a chain transfer agent is excluded. The thermoplastic polymer is a copolymer of a vinyl aromatic monomer and acrylonitrile and optionally an additional monoethylenically unsaturated monomer. The thermoplastic molding composition has a low level of unpleasant odor coupled with reduced gloss sensitivity and good mechanical properties.
