The invention relates to an improved technical apparatus for the large-scale storage of energy and to a method for storing and for transporting electrochemical energy by means of this apparatus, wherein the apparatus is characterized in that a) the apparatus contains the materials A and S, b) the materials A and S are contained separately from one another in a respective container BA and BS, these containers being arranged one above the other, c) wherein the containers BA and BS are joined by means of a solid electrolyte E which is permeable to cations, and d) wherein the containers BA and BS are contained in an outer container, characterized in that the apparatus contains at least two outer containers containing containers BA and BS joined by means of a solid electrolyte E.
