摘要： The invention relates to a method for determining a direction of travel in a motor vehicle (100) with an accident prevention or preventive protection system (114), comprising the following steps: a) Recognition of an object (112, 121, 124) in front of the motor vehicle (100) in the direction of travel of the motor vehicle, b) Detection of possible contact of the motor vehicle (100) with the object (112, 121, 124) in accordance with the relative position of said motor vehicle and object to each other, c) Activation of a braking or steering process, which is independent of the driver, in accordance with the detection results with regard to possible contact with the object (112, 121, 124). In order to prevent accidental activation of the protection system, the following additional steps are included, according to the invention: e) Detection of the direction of travel of the motor vehicle by the preventive protection system (114) or by a safety device (116) connected thereto, and if travel in reverse is detected, inhibition or abortion of the braking or steering process which is independent of the driver.
