The product organosilicon amine capped resins are reacted with an acyl halide to yield siloxane resins with amide organo-functionality. The later reaction is especially useful for obtaining acrylamide organofunctionality which is polymerizable and useful in formulating coating compositions such as pressure sensitive adhesives.

Difunctional halo silicon amide compounds are prepared by cleaving the nitrogen-silicon bond in a nitrogen-silicon heterocycle with a reactive halide. The reaction is straight forward with no intermediates or byproducts. The halo functionality is capable of capping any SiOH group. When the other functionality is an acrylamide, the capped entity may be polymerized or crosslinked by free radical initiators of the acrylamide functionality thereby producing useful products such as paper release coatings and photoresists.

A method is described for making an emulsion in which a mixture is formed containing a polysiloxane and a primary nonionic surfactant having an HLB value of 10 to 19. There is added to the mixture a first portion of surfactant free water gradually in a series of separate incremental steps. This is followed by the addition to the mixture of a secondary nonionic surfactant having an HLB value of 1.8-15. The mixture is stirred until the particle size of the polysiloxane in the mixture is in the range of 1-100 micrometers. A second portion of water is added to the mixture in an amount sufficient to provide a total content of water in the product of 25-65 percent by weight.

Ultraviolet light-curable compositions which contain a photosensitizer compound and an organosilicon compound which contains (meth)acrylamido-substituted hydrocarbon radicals have improved cure in air when a mercaptoorganosilicon compound is added. The improved compositions are particularly useful as coating compositions for fast-paced operations where the excluding of air from any portion of the curing zone is not desired.

Curable organosilicon compounds which contain (meth)acrylamido-substituted hydrocarbon radicals have their viscosities greatly reduced by the addition of a small amount of a vinyl monomer compound. Advantageously, the resulting compositions are more easily applied to a substrate, such as paper, in fast-paced coating operations without the significant loss of useful properties, such as the cure rate of the curable composition and the adhesive release behavior of the cured composition.
