摘要： Dispersed polymers comprising microparticles stabilized with two kinds of steric stabilizers are disclosed. The first stabilizer is an essentially linear polymer having a terminal end attached to the microparticle. The second stabilizer is a graft or comb polymer comprising an acrylic backbone having side chains. This stabilizer, in contrast to the first stabilizer, may be attached to the core by means of a plurality of functional groups placed along the backbone of the graft polymer.

摘要： A coating composition containing about 40-90% by weight of film forming binder and 10-60% by weight of an organic liquid carrier; wherein the binder contains about (a) 10-70% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a dispersed gelled acrylic polymer having (i) a core of gelled polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers which is not soluble in the organic liquid carrier and having chemically grafted thereto (ii) substantially linear stabilizer polymeric components that are soluble in the organic liquid carrier and comprise polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers and have a weight average molecular weight of about 500-20,000 determined by GPC (gel permeation chromatography) using polystyrene as the standard; wherein the core, the stabilizer polymeric component, or both contain at least 3% by weight of polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers having isocyanate groups attached thereto that are capable of reacting with component (b); (b) 30-90% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of an oligomer or polymer or both having functional groups capable of reacting with the isocyanate groups of component (a); and (c) 0-60% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of an organic polyisocyanate crosslinking agent.

摘要： A process for preparing microgel(s) that uses a wide range of activatable prepolymers; in the process, a polymer composition of crosslinked component A and soluble components B and C is formed from mono-olefinic and multi-olefinic monomers in the presence of catalyst and initiator; the process comprises: I) introducing mono-olefinic monomer, catalyst, and initiator into a reactor in the absence of multi-olefinic monomer and producing an activatable prepolymer, component B; II) contacting the product of I) with multi-olefinic monomer to produce components A and C, optionally in the presence of additional initiator; also optionally in the presence of additional mono-olefinic monomer and initiator; the ratio of components A/(B+C) can be controlled by varying the mole ratio of Component B/ multi-olefinic monomer from 0.05/1 up to 5/1, by decreasing the mole ratio to increase the ratio of A/(B+C), and increasing the mole ratio to decrease the ratio of A/(B+C).

摘要： A water-based dispersion useful for forming aqueous coating composition containing dispersed pigment, an aqueous carrier and a branched polymer dispersant (binder); the branched polymer has a weight average molecular weight of about 5,000 - 100,000 and contains 20-80% by weight of a hydrophilic backbone and correspondingly 80-20% by weight of macromonomer side chains; wherein the backbone is of polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers and 2-30% by weight, based on the weight of the backbone of polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers having an acid-functional group; and wherein at least 10% of the acid-functional groups are neutralized with an amine or an inorganic base and is hydrophilic in comparison to the side chains; the side chains are of macromonomers of polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomers that are polymerized into the backbone via an ethylencially unsaturated group and the macromonomers have a weight average molecular weight of about 1,000 - 30,000 and wherein the weight ratio of pigment to binder is about 1/100 - 200/100.
