    摘要: Adherent metal coatings are provided on articles comprising a polyimide of 3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxybiphenyl and 4-aminoethyl ether by non-electrolytic metal deposition (e.g., physical vapor deposition or electroless deposition) following a treatment method comprising steps of contact with strong nitric acid, with strong sulfuric acid and with an aqueous alkaline permanganate solution, the first two steps being followed by a water rinse. The metallized article is then heat-treated for at least about 30 minutes at a temperature in the range of about 60-100°C. Optional steps are treatment with an alkaline solution after sulfuric acid treatment and deposition of a further metal coating such as an electrolytic coating; said further metal deposition is also followed by a heat treatment step.

    摘要: The adhesion of metal coatings deposited by electroless deposition on polycarbonate-addition polymer substrates, especially polycarbonate-ABS substrates, containing up to about 85% (by weight) polycarbonate is improved by first contacting the substrate with an alkali metal hydroxide solution for about 1-2 minutes, followed by an alkaline permanganate solution and a reducing agent to remove any manganese residue.

    摘要: Increases in surface resistivity of electroless nickel coatings on polycarbonate-containing substrates are inhibited by employing two electroless nickel plating solutions. The first solution is one which deposits a metal layer containing phosphorus, if any, in an amount up to 5% by weight and is used to deposit a layer at least 0.5 micron thick. The second solution is one which deposits a layer containing phosphorus in the amount of at least 5% and preferably at least 6% by weight. Another metal layer may be interposed between the two nickel layers.
