    摘要: On the transmitting side of a facsimile system, a preprocessor (14) obtains a predictive picture signal (x̂ij) of a pel (i, j) taking account of predictive picture signals of pels prior to the pel (i, j) which have been previously obtained. A two-level transposition signal (d ij ) is generated in accordance with the predetermined on the basis of the result of a first comparing step carried out by a first comparing means (145) comparing an actual picture signal (x ij ) with a dither threshold (t ij ) stored in a memory (143) and on the basis of a second comparing step carried out by a second comparing means (147) comparing the predictive picture signal (x ij ) with the stored dither threshold (t ij ). The thus obtained transposition signal (d ij ) is encoded by means of a MH or MR encoder (16) and transmitted to a receiving side of the facsimile system. Compared with the conventional case in which a dither signal (z ij ) itself is encoded and transmitted, the transposition signal (d ij ) can be considerably compressed when it is encoded for transmission by means of the MH or MR encoder (16).
