A specific revolution speed suitable for reducing the emissions of air pollutants is stored, and an engine (7) is controlled using the specific revolution speed as a target revolution speed for the engine. The absorption torque of a hydraulic pump (6) is subjected to a high-pass filtering process whereby a high-frequency component devoid of a trend component is obtained. Target assist torque is computed from the high-frequency component, and an assist electric motor (10) is subjected to power running/generation control accordingly. A specific output torque range suitable for reducing the emissions of air pollutants is stored, and the target assist torque is corrected so that the trend component does not exceed the specific output torque range.

The interference prevention controller is constructed such that if a differential angle range in which the left and right work fronts A, B are likely to come into contact with each other is defined as an interference danger area (N), and an assigned differential-angle range contiguous to the interference danger area is defined as a semi-interference danger area, when the differential angle between the work fronts A, B is present in the semi-interference danger area (M) and the work fronts A, B approach each other, the controller reduces a signal level of an output signal which swings the swing posts 7a, 7b, and slows down a swinging operation of the work front which swings towards the other work front. This prevents damage to the left and right work fronts due to interference between the work fronts.

An area-limited digging control device for a hydraulic shovel characterized in that an area where a front device (1A) can move is set in advance, that the position and attitude of the front device (1A) are calculated based on signals from angle detectors (8a-8c), that a target speed vector of the front device is calculated based on a detection signal from an operation lever device and a load pressure detected by pressure detectors (270a-271b), that when the front device stays within the set area adjacent to its boundary, a vector component in a direction of approaching the boundary of the set area is reduced, while when the front device stays out of the set area, the target speed vector is corrected such that the front device returns to the set area, and that the operation signal in accordance with its target speed vector is corrected by a load pressure and outputted to proportional solenoid valves (210a-211b), whereby area-limited digging can efficiently be performed and stable and accurate control can be performed irrespective of variation in the load pressure of a hydraulic actuator.
