Disclosed is a novel aromatic amine derivative having an asymmetric structure. Also disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device wherein an organic thin film composed of one or more layers including at least a light-emitting layer is interposed between a cathode and an anode. Since at least one layer of the organic thin film contains the aromatic amine derivative by itself or as a component of a mixture, molecules are hardly crystallized, thereby improving the production yield of the organic electroluminescent device. This organic electroluminescent device has a long life.

A novel aromatic amine derivative having an asymmetric structure; and an organic electroluminescence element having a cathode, an anode and, sandwiched between the electrodes, one or plural organic thin film layers at least containing a luminescent layer, wherein at least one of said organic thin film layers comprises the above aromatic amine derivative as itself or a component of a mixture. The novel aromatic amine derivative has a molecular structure making the compound less susceptible to crystallization, which results in the improvement of the yield in the production of an organic EL element.

An organic EL device having a good durability against pulse drive and an excellent heat resistance and comprising a luminescent layer and a hole injection layer between the anode and cathode, wherein the hole injection layer is made of an oligomer which has a phenylenediamine structure and the glass transition temperature of which is 110 DEG C or more, and an intermediate layer is provided between the hole injection layer and the anode to suppress chemical reactions at the interface between the anode and the hole injection layer. Hence the heat resistance of the device is greatly improved, an excellent durability against severe driving conditions is ensured, and the life is long.
