A roof assembly for a vehicle comprises a stationary part (3) and at least one rigid panel (4) movably supported by the stationary part through an operating mechanism. The panel is movable between a closed position, in which it closes the opening in the fixed roof, and a rear position, in which it is moved with its rear side upwardly and slid rearwardly. A downwardly extending side cover (8) is connected to side edges of said panel (4) and to the stationary part. The side cover hides the operating mechanism from a side view and has front and rear ends. The side cover is substantially stationary in longitudinal direction with respect to the stationary part and is slidably guided in a guide rail (12) on the panel. The guide rail is adapted to guide the side cover in vertical and lateral directions. The guide rail (12) only starts at a distance (A) from the front end of the cover (8) when the panel (4) is in its closed position. The roof opening has a forward edge and near to said forward edge a movable wind deflector is provided which comprises an upper elongate member extending substantially in parallel to said forward edge which is movable between a retracted position below the level of the stationary roof part and an extended position at least partially above said level of the stationary roof part and a flexible wind deflecting material having an upper end attached to said elongate member and a lower end attached to the stationary roof part. A movable control part is provided which extends in parallel to said forward edge and which with a first end is attached to the stationary roof part and which with an opposite second end is connected to the wind deflecting material at an engagement position between the upper and lower ends of the wind deflecting material.

A sunshade assembly comprises a flexible sunscreen having opposed longitudinal edges and opposed transversal edges, a rotatable winding shaft and an operating beam and two opposed longitudinal guides each defining a guide channel for receiving therein and guiding inwardly folded parts of corresponding ones of said longitudinal edges of the sunscreen. The guides further each define an entrance opening for the respective guide channel. The operating beam at opposite ends is provided with positioning members around which inwardly folded wings of the longitudinal edges of the sunscreen are positioned. The positioning members extend from the operating beam into corresponding ones of said longitudinal guides longitudinally in a direction towards the winding tube and are movable with the operating beam for again positioning the longitudinal edges of the sunscreen into the longitudinal guides after coming out of said guides.
