A cast mold for manufacturing a contact lens or an intraocular lens, wherein the cast mold is provided with a central part and a bearing ring and a flexible connection between the central part and the bearing ring. Further, an injection mold is provided for manufacturing such a cast mold and a method for manufacturing such a cast mold. The injection mold is provided with a mold cavity with a plunger biased by a spring towards the mold cavity which serves for compensating shrinkage which occurs during the curing of the plastic injected into the injection mold. Also described is a method for manufacturing a contact lens or intraocular lens with the aid of the cast mold, as well as a contact lens or intraocular lens obtained with this method.

Next, the monomer in the cast mold is cured to form a lens blank, and the cup top part and the cup bottom part are separated from each other for exposing the formed lens blank, which is bonded to the optical cup part during curing, to provide a semimanufacture assembly, to be worked with a lathe, which comprises the optical cup part and the lens blank. Then, the lens blank can undergo a turning operation to form a lens having two optically accurately defined surfaces.

A system for manufacturing ophthalmic devices, in particular contact lenses or intraocular lenses, includes at least one injection molding machine for manufacturing a cup bottom part and cup top part to form a cast mold, a cooling station, an injection assembly arranged for injecting an amount of monomeric material into the cup bottom part, a curing assembly, a first optical inspection assembly for determining at least one first optical cup part parameter, a second optical inspection assembly for determining at least one optical combination parameter of the combination of the cured monomeric material formed into a lens and the cup part that bears the lens, and an electronic control provided with a calculation module for determining at least one optical lens parameter of the lens on the basis of the cup part parameter and the combination parameter. Possibly, production parameters can be adjusted on the basis of trend changes of the lens parameters of produced lenses.
