摘要: In manufacturing a contact lens, a contact lens mould arrangement in which the engagement between the mould halves is unconstrained and at least one mould half is sufficiently pliable or flexible that during the curing of the contact lens composition at one mold half may move or flex relative to the other to define a post-cure mould cavity of smaller volume than the pre-cure mould cavity and during which the curvatures of the first and/or second mould surfaces are allowed to change provides a significantly more efficient manufacturing process and enables one mould half to be readily utilized as a blister cup for contact lens packaging.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for the hydration and cleaning of hydrophillic moulded products, such as contact lenses (10), moulded between two mould portions (4, 12), with hydration fluid and the removal of the hydration fluid. The mthod comprises the steps of: providing a moulded product (10) held in between the mould surfaces (6, 14) of the two mould portions (4, 12); separating the two mould portions (4, 12) so that the product (10) is held on the mould surface (6, 14) of one of the two mould portions (4, 12); providing a support tray (1) formed and arranged for supporting two mould portions in spaced apart opposed proximity relative to each other so as to captively contain a product (10) in a product holding space (16a) defined by the mould portions so that the mould portions and support tray (1) define fluid passages therebetween for substantially unobstructed flow of fluid through the product holding space (16). Hydration fluid is introduced into the product holding (16) so as to hydrate the moulded product (10), the hydrated product being captively retained in said product holding space (16). Cleaning fluid (2) is introducted into the product holding space (16) so as to substantially flush the product holding space (16) and the moulded product (10) of hydration fluid and any contaminants contained therein.

摘要: A mould for cast moulding a contact lens comprises a first cup member (11) having a male mould surface (14) and a second cup member (16) with a female mould surface (19). The two cup members (11,16) form a piston and cylinder and are used in a pressure vessel (26) so as to apply loading pressure to deflect the mould surfaces (14,19) to maintain the surfaces in contact with a lens being cast. The mould is opened with the mould surface (14) facing upwardly. Hydrating fluid (35) is added to the first cup member (11) and a cover (34) sealed to the top of the first cup member (11).

摘要: Moule en polyoléfine pour le façonnage de lentilles de contact à partir d'une composition monomère polymérisable qui subit un retrait lors de la polymérisation, comprenant: deux demi-moules mâle (50) et femelle (51) dont l'un au moins présente une partie de diaphragme flexible (53, 54) façonnée de manière à présenter une surface correspondant à une surface lenticulaire, ces demi-moules (50, 51) agissant de concert, lorsqu'ils sont refermés l'un contre l'autre, de manière à définir une cavité de moule (52) recevant un certain volume de la composition monomère; au moins l'un desdits demi-moules (50, 51) possède une partie d'épaule (55, 56) entourant la cavité et façonnée pour s'engager dans l'autre demi-moule et définir une partie de moulage de bord de ladite cavité. Pendant l'utilisation ledit diaphragme (53, 54) est dévié dans la cavité sous l'action des forces exercées sur le moule par la composition monomère polymérisant dans la cavité fermée (52), ce qui compense le retrait dû à la polymérisation et empêche la formation de bulles ou de cavités dans les lentilles résultantes. L'invention comprend également un procédé de façonnage de lentilles de contact utilisant un moule du type sus-mentionné.

摘要: A cast mold for manufacturing a contact lens or an intraocular lens, wherein the cast mold is provided with a central part and a bearing ring and a flexible connection between the central part and the bearing ring. Further, an injection mold is provided for manufacturing such a cast mold and a method for manufacturing such a cast mold. The injection mold is provided with a mold cavity with a plunger biased by a spring towards the mold cavity which serves for compensating shrinkage which occurs during the curing of the plastic injected into the injection mold. Also described is a method for manufacturing a contact lens or intraocular lens with the aid of the cast mold, as well as a contact lens or intraocular lens obtained with this method.

A device is an integral mold comprising an attachment portion and a cup portion having a cavity, and the mold further comprises a first optical component. The cavity of the mold contains additional optical components to form a multi-component optical system blank. Another device is a multi-component optical system blank. A process for fabricating a multi-component optical system blank comprises providing an integral mold comprising a first optical component, adding at least a second optical component, shaping the mold after addition of an optical component, and shaping the resultant blank into an optical system. A further device is a multi-component optical system produced in a process disclosed herein.

摘要: An improved, automated method and apparatus for molding contact lenses generally comprises the steps of: (1) forming anterior (20) and posterior (18) mold cavities in longitudinally spaced relation in first and second webs (10, 12) of material, respectively; (2) dispensing a liquid, curable, lens material (e.g., monomer) in each anterior cavity of the first web; (3) aligning and bringing the posterior and anterior cavities into sequential, mating, centered engagement with each other; (4) curing the lens material captured between respective posterior and anterior molds; and (5) separating the webs to release the lenses (34) cast therebetween. In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the mold cavities are vacuum-formed in the respective webs, and packaging receptacles (40) are formed in one or both of the webs used to mold the lenses.

摘要: A polyolefin mould for casting contact lenses from a polymerisable monomer composition which shrinks on polymerisation, said mould comprising: male (50) and female (51) mould halves at least one of which has a flexible diaphragm portion (53, 54) which is shaped to provide a surface corresponding to a lenticular surface, said mould halves (50, 51), when closed together, cooperating to define a mould cavity (52) for receiving a volume of said monomer composition, at least one of said mould halves (50, 51) having a shoulder portion (55, 56) surrounding said cavity and shaped to engage with said other mould half to define an edge moulding portion of said cavity; whereby in use said diaphragm (53, 54) is deflected into said cavity under forces exerted on said mould by said monomer composition when polymerised in said closed cavity (52), thereby compensating for the shrinkage occurring on polymerisation and avoiding the formation of bubbles or voids in the resulting lenses. In addition, the invention includes a method of casting contact lenses using a mould of the above kind.
