Disclosed is a method for producing a lubricating base oil. The method comprises subjecting a synthetic wax obtained by a gas-to-liquid process, or a lubricating-oil fraction separated from the synthetic wax, to hydrocracking, thereby obtaining a hydrocracked oil having a normal paraffin content of 30% or greater and 50% or less; and subjecting the hydrocracked oil to hydroisomerization dewaxing in the presence of a hydroisomerization catalyst, wherein the lubricating base oil has a volume resistivity at 80°C of 1 TΩ· m or greater, and a volume resistivity at 25°C relative to the volume resistivity at 80°C that satisfies conditions represented by the following formula (1): B 25 °C / A 80 °C ≥ 1.5 wherein in formula (1), A (80°C) indicates the volume resistivity at 80°C of the lubricating base oil, and B (25°C) indicates the volume resistivity at 25°C of the lubricating base oil.
