This invention relates to a phosphoric acid group-containing non-aqueous dispersion wherein polymer particles are dispersed in a solution of a macromolecular dispersion stabilizer dissolved in an organic solvent, said polymer particle being a particle of polymer comprising a phosphoric acid group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomeric unit as a constituent component. With use of said phosphoric acid group-containing non-aqueous dispersion, there can be improved inter layer adhesivity between a metallic coating film, which is formed from a leafing type aluminum flake pigment, and another coating film adjacent thereto, without reducing the excellent effects such as dense metallic feeling of the coated surface, a chrome plating-like finish, and strong brightness feeling and strong flip-flop perperties, which are produced by such a metallic coating film.

The present invention provides a thermosetting organic solvent type coating capable of forming a cured coating film having a TUKON hardness at 20°C of 15 or more and the minimum value of dynamic modulus E' at a frequency of 110 Hz in the temperature range of 150-200°C, of 1x10 9 dyn/cm 2 or more. The cured film formed from the coating, as compared with the cured films formed from conventional organic solvent type coatings used as a top coat for automobile (e.g. an organic solvent type coating containing, as main components, a hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin and a melamine resin, or a carboxylic-epoxy type coating), is at least equivalent in weatherability, finish appearance, acid resistance, etc. and superior in stain resistance.

An organic solvent-based heat-curable high solid coating composition comprising:
(A) a carboxyl-containing compound having an acid value of 50 to 500 mg KOH/g wherein 20 mol% or more of the carboxyl groups are silylated carboxyl groups, (B) at least one epoxide selected from (B-1) an epoxy-, hydroxyl- and hydrolyzable alkoxysilyl-containing vinyl polymer, (B-2) the vinyl polymer (B-1) wherein 20 mol% or more of the hydroxyl groups are silylated hydroxyl groups, and (B-3) an epoxy compound having a number average molecular weight less than 1,000, and (C) a crosslinked particulate polymer, the composition having a solid content of 65 wt.% or more; and a method for forming a topcoat using the composition. The composition of the invention has a sufficiently high solid content, is capable of forming a coating film with high resistance to acids and the like, and is excellent in low-temperature curability, storage stability and recoat adhesion.
