A vinylidene fluoride resin fiber having an increased tensile strength is obtained by spinning by melt-extrusion of a vinylidene fluoride resin having a large polymerization degree under the conditions of a small extrusion rate and a large draft ratio into a small diameter of spun fiber. The thus obtained fiber is characterized by having no crystal melting point based on the vinylidene fluoride chains at a temperature below 178°C, and having a mean crystal length in the molecular chain direction of 200 A or longer and a birefringence of 30x10 3 or larger.

The dielectric film having improved electrical and optical properties comprises a vinylidene fluoride polymer formed essentially from vinylidene fluoride, said film having a predominant α-crystal structure, the molecular axes in the crystal region of the film being oriented mainly parallel to the plane of the film, the degree of orientation π being from 0.8 to 1.0, and the film, when heated from room temperature up to about the melting point, manifesting no heat shrinkage. The dielectric film is produced by an inflation method in which the vinylidene fluoride polymer is flow-oriented in a molten state, cooled to solidify and then taken up.

A vinylidene fluoride resin having an inherent viscosity of 0.8 to 1.4 dl/g in dimethylformamide is melt-extruded and cooled and solidified under draft-stretching to form a film having a birefringence of 25 x 10- 3 or larger. The film is heat--treated at 80 - 120°C and split into a split yarn. The split yarn has a Young's modulus even higher than that of the polypropylene split yarn and, when provided with a surface charge above the glass transition temperature, retains the charge semi-permanently. The charged split yarn is particularly suitable for forming a gas filter.

A vinylidene fluoride resin composition is obtained by mixing into a vinylidene fluoride resin a copolymer of a monomer (A) having the formula: wherein R, is H or CH 3 , and X 1 and X 2 are each a saturated hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, H or halogen, and a monomer (B) having the formula wherein R 2 is H or CH 3 and R 3 is a saturated hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms. Shaped products, particularly films obtained from this composition exhibit excellent ultraviolet shielding off effect and excellent transparency.
