An object of the present invention is to provide a hydraulic pump/motor with a rotation detection mechanism, capable of detecting a rotational direction and a rotation speed of a rotational shaft with a simple structure and easily performing machining of a detection target section. To achieve the object, the rotation detection mechanism includes a detection target section 52 including three or more recesses 6a to 6c (6) formed on an outer peripheral surface of a cylinder block 14, the three or more recesses 6 being formed in a unique arrangement pattern with different arc lengths R1 to R3 between the three continuous recesses with respect to a forward rotational direction F of a rotational shaft 13 and being formed so as not to include the unique arrangement pattern with respect to a reverse rotational direction B of the rotational shaft 13, and a rotation sensor 50 arranged in a casing in a state of facing the detection target section 52 and configured to detect the detection target section 52.
