摘要: A method of projecting an image light field to an eye of a viewer, the method comprising: modulating, by a controller, an intensity of a light beam in a sequence of time slots, each time slot of the sequence of time slots corresponding to a respective field angle of the image light field, the intensity of the light beam in each time slot of the sequence of time slots corresponding to an intensity of the image light field at the respective field angle; propagating the light beam onto a dynamic input coupling grating (ICG); controlling the dynamic ICG, by the controller, to diffract a respective portion of the light beam into a waveguide at a respective angle corresponding to the respective field angle for each time slot of the sequence of time slots; and directing each respective portion of the light beam out of the waveguide toward the eye at the respective field angle, thereby projecting the image light field to the eye of the viewer

摘要: A head-mounted apparatus include an eyepiece that include a variable dimming assembly and a frame mounting the eyepiece so that a user side of the eyepiece faces a towards a user and a world side of the eyepiece opposite the first side faces away from the user. The dynamic dimming assembly selectively modulates an intensity of light transmitted parallel to an optical axis from the world side to the user side during operation. The dynamic dimming assembly includes a variable birefringence cell having multiple pixels each having an independently variable birefringence, a first linear polarizer arranged on the user side of the variable birefringence cell, the first linear polarizer being configured to transmit light propagating parallel to the optical axis linearly polarized along a pass axis of the first linear polarizer orthogonal to the optical axis, a quarter wave plate arranged between the variable birefringence cell and the first linear polarizer, a fast axis of the quarter wave plate being arranged relative to the pass axis of the first linear polarizer to transform linearly polarized light transmitted by the first linear polarizer into circularly polarized light, and a second linear polarizer on the world side of the variable birefringence cell.

摘要: Methods and systems for depth-based foveated rendering in the display system are disclosed. The display system may be an augmented reality display system configured to provide virtual content on a plurality of depth planes using different wavefront divergence. Some embodiments include monitoring eye orientations of a user of a display system based on detected sensor information. A fixation point is determined based on the eye orientations, the fixation point representing a three-dimensional location with respect to a field of view. Location information of virtual objects to present is obtained, with the location information indicating three-dimensional positions of the virtual objects. Resolutions of at least one virtual object is adjusted based on a proximity of the at least one virtual object to the fixation point. The virtual objects are presented to a user by display system with the at least one virtual object being rendered according to the adjusted resolution.
