    摘要: An optical system includes a light-guide optical element (LOE) (10) having mutually-parallel first and second major external surfaces (11, 12) for guiding light by internal reflection, and a projector (100) that projects illumination corresponding to a collimated image from an aperture (101). The projector injects light in to the LOE via a coupling prism (30) attached to the first major external surface (11) that projects an image injection surface. A reflective polarizing beam splitter (51) is deployed at an interface between the major external surface (11) and the coupling prism (30) parallel to the major external surfaces, to selectively transmit illumination from the coupling prism into the LOE while trapping light already within the LOE so as to propagate within the LOE by internal reflection.

The picture generation apparatus (100) includes: a light source (110), configured to provide a light beam; and a beam splitting unit (120), configured to separate a linearly polarized polychromatic light from the light beam, and input the linearly polarized polychromatic light into a spatial light modulator (130), where the spatial light modulator (130) is configured to perform light modulation on the linearly polarized polychromatic light based on picture data, and input a modulated linearly polarized polychromatic light into a polarization conversion unit (140); and the polarization conversion unit (140) is configured to convert a polarization direction of a first colored light in the modulated linearly polarized polychromatic light, and output an imaging light, where the imaging light includes the first colored light and a second colored light whose polarization directions are perpendicular to each other.

    摘要: A head-mounted apparatus include an eyepiece that include a variable dimming assembly and a frame mounting the eyepiece so that a user side of the eyepiece faces a towards a user and a world side of the eyepiece opposite the first side faces away from the user. The dynamic dimming assembly selectively modulates an intensity of light transmitted parallel to an optical axis from the world side to the user side during operation. The dynamic dimming assembly includes a variable birefringence cell having multiple pixels each having an independently variable birefringence, a first linear polarizer arranged on the user side of the variable birefringence cell, the first linear polarizer being configured to transmit light propagating parallel to the optical axis linearly polarized along a pass axis of the first linear polarizer orthogonal to the optical axis, a quarter wave plate arranged between the variable birefringence cell and the first linear polarizer, a fast axis of the quarter wave plate being arranged relative to the pass axis of the first linear polarizer to transform linearly polarized light transmitted by the first linear polarizer into circularly polarized light, and a second linear polarizer on the world side of the variable birefringence cell.
