It is intended to provide a power generating apparatus of renewable energy type that has a fixation structure of the hydraulic pump that can transmit large torque and can be processed with ease and at low cost even when the main shaft has a large diameter, as well as a method of installing such hydraulic pump. In the power generating apparatus, a connecting member 20 is provided on the outer periphery of a main shaft 4 to engage with a cylindrical member 10 provided on the outer periphery of the main shaft 4. The connecting member 20 includes a fixing part 21, a first spline part 22 and first pins 23. The fixing part 21 is fixed to the outer periphery of the main shaft 4 by means of the first pins 23 disposed along a circumferential direction of the main shaft 4. In the oil-leakage determination step, it is determined that the oil leakage from the oil using unit (10) has occurred if any one of the following condition a) or b) is not satisfied. Condition a): a fluid level of the oil in the storage tank (12) is greater than a threshold value. Condition b): a pressure in the circulation line (14) is greater than a threshold value, or a pressure in the oil using unit (12) is greater than a threshold value.
