The hydrocracking method of wax of the invention is a hydrocracking process wherein crude wax is subjected to hydrocracking and the untreated wax fraction that is produced after the hydrocracking is re-supplied for hydrocracking, and wherein hydrocracking of the mixture of the crude wax and untreated wax fraction is carried out in such a manner for a conversion ratio of 50-85 % by mass from the wax fraction with a boiling point of 360°C or above to the light fraction with a boiling point of below 360°C in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst. It is thereby possible to simultaneously achieve both an increased heart-cut fraction yield (as the product of the hydrocracking) and a reduced normal paraffin content in the heart-cut fraction when the untreated wax is hydrocracked by a bottom recycling system.

The hydrorefining method of the invention is characterized by contacting, in the presence of hydrogen, a fuel stock comprising normal paraffins and oxygen-containing compounds, with a hydrorefining catalyst comprising a support containing USY zeolite and at least one solid acid selected from among silica-alumina, alumina-boria, silica-zirconia, silica-magnesia and silica-titania, and at least one metal selected from among metals of Group VIb and metals of Group VIII of the Periodic Table supported on the support.

A hydrocracking catalyst that solves the above-described problem comprises a carrier containing ultra-stable Y-type zeolite obtained by the ultrastabilization of NaY-type zeolite and a metal from group VIII of the Periodic Table supported on this carrier, and is characterized in that the NaY-type zeolite has a peak in its X-ray diffraction pattern in the range of 2¸ = 28.0° to 28.5° and 2¸ = 15.0° to 16.0°, and the intensity ratio I 1 /I 2 is no greater than 0.05, letting I 1 be the peak intensity observed in the range of 2¸ = 28.0° to 28.5° and I 2 be the peak intensity observed in the range of 2¸ = 15.0° to 16.0°.
