摘要:
The invention relates to the manufacture of a dispenser cathode having a porous tungsten body incorporating scandium oxide in at least a layer adjacent the surface area intended for electron emission. It was surprisingly found that a scandium oxide-containing tungsten body can be mechanically processed satisfactorily if it incorporates copper prior to the processing operation.

By providing at least the top layer of the matrix of a scandate cathode with an alloy or compound which exhibits scandium segregation, a satisfactory recovery for cathodes with a high emission can be achieved after ion bombardment.
摘要:
A method of manufacturing a scandate dispenser cathode having a matrix (1) at least the top layer of which consists substantially of a mixture of tungsten with scandium oxide or with a mixed oxide comprising scandium oxide. When sintering of the matrix is carried out at a temperature between 1300 and 1700°C, preferably at approximately 1500°C and in a hydrogen atmosphere, cathodes are obtained having a better recovery after ion bombardment compared with cathodes sintered at 1900°C. Sintering in hydrogen results in a better reproducibility.
摘要:
A cathode body for an impregnated scandate cathode is obtained by compressing and sintering a mixture of tungsten powder with approximately 0.5% by weight of scandium, whereafter the body is impregnated.

An oxide cathode comprising a metal base substantially consisting of titanium (11, 20, 30) and a heating element (13, 22, 23, 32, 33, 34. 35) for heating said base, on which base a porous layer (12, 21, 31) comprising an alkaline earth metal oxide is provided, enables a comparatively low operating temperature and/or a short warming up time and/or a small supplied power to be used.
