摘要： A tape head assembly is formed by depositing a multiplicity of thin film transducers (12) on a ceramic wafer or substrate. The wafer is divided into head bars (16), each of which has one or more thin film transducers (12) on its face. End sections (20A, 20B) and a cover bar (18) are joined to the head bar (16) to form a head bar subassembly. A flexible cable (26) or electrical pins are provided between the end sections to enable electrical connection between the head circuit and external circuitry. By joining a number of head bar subassemblies, a multigap thin film tape head assembly is produced to serve as a read/write device.

摘要： A system for providing a predefined curvature to the distal end of a transducer (5), in which a flat lapping plate (11) is rotated about an axis while the transducer distal end is disposed in a lapping engagement with the lapping plate (11). A rocker mechanism (26) imparts a rocking motion to the transducer about a pivotal axis. A control system (40) provides an output control signal which can vary the rocking rate, the extent of rocking motion, and the force applied in accordance with an input control signal obtained from the element being lapped or from other sensing devices.

摘要： A tripad air bearing slider useful in a disk drive is designed with two outer pads that extend from two or more tapered sections at the leading edge of the slider towards the trailing edge. The pads are configured and angled so that a desired lift force is obtained that acts in opposition to a force provided by a spring loaded flexure or load beam. The angles that define the shape of the three pads are formed by simple mechanical cutting, using a diamond cutting wheel, for example, or alternatively by ion milling or reactive ion etching.
